My trip in a context
As I have grown older and heard more about NYC in different contexts, my desire to go has tremendously increased. In particular, studying IBP and interning the US Embassy in Copenhagen have boosted my interest for the country. The corona pandemic has not made it easy to thick the box of visiting the country due to rigorous travel restrictions. Everything has its time and after a 20-month long travel ban, the US authorities allowed foreigners into the country again (November 8, 2021). I realized this was my opportunity and I booked tickets overseas.

Altogether, it was not my first time in the United States as I visited the country back in the summer of 2019. Back then I did something called WorkAway in the state of Alabama which was an outstanding experience. I got to experience how it is like to live in the southern states because I was sheltered by two different American families. On my return back to Denmark, I had a layover in JFK airport, which is a whole different story, where I only got a tiny glimpse of NYC at a distance. As a result, I decided  to dedicate a trip to NYC, perhaps a few days in Washington D.C., and I am excited to see what this part of the country has to offer.

I will fly with SAS from Copenhagen to Newark Liberty International Airport (round trip price is 3.815DKK). A former “buddy” will welcome me at Pennsylvania Station which is amazing. Overall, I am just looking forward to being a tourist again. I am not sure why, but I am apparently extremely thrilled about the skyline. It might be caused by the fact that my drone makes me think of the perspectives from above. I will not bring my drone (US regulations are not for me at this point), why I am planning to visit some observation decks to view the city. Wouldn’t a helicopter tour be the icing on the cake? I think so. Let’s see.

The Big Apple?
This phrase about NYC initiated in the 1920s when a sports journalist wrote a column in a local newspaper about the many horse races and racecourses in and around New York. The writer referred to the substantial prizes to be won as “the big apple”, symbolizing the biggest and best one can achieve.

High hopes in the above photo.
